Tourist found unconscious after violent robbery in Malaga, later identified by his wife

A 46-year-old foreign tourist was attacked and left unconscious on a street in Malaga's La Trinidad district; his wife later identified him after reporting him missing.

Police patrols in Malaga's La Trinidad neighbourhood found a 46-year-old foreign tourist lying unconscious after a street robbery and rushed him to Hospital Regional, where he was admitted to the ICU with serious traumatic brain injuries. Stripped of personal belongings and without a phone, his identity could not be established at first, prompting a brief video recording in the emergency department to aid identification.

The victim's wife reported him missing at the Foreign Tourist Attention Service (SATE) office in Plaza de la Marina; officers then showed her the video, confirming he was her husband. Medical staff later moved him from intensive care to a regular ward as his condition stabilized. The National Police are now investigating the assault, focusing on locating the perpetrators, who are thought to have targeted the victim for his mobile phone. The case highlights challenges in identifying victims of violent crime among tourists.
