Tourist narrowly escapes feral buffalo charge on NT hiking trail
A 21-year-old visitor to Nitmiluk National Park was lightly injured after a wild buffalo rushed her and her partner on the Butterfly Gorge path.
Emma Hipwell, a 21-year-old from Victoria, was walking the popular trail to Butterfly Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park when a feral buffalo charged at the pair twice. The animal’s aggressive approach left Hipwell with minor injuries, but she and her companion were able to retreat unharmed. Such encounters are uncommon in the area. Authorities from NT Parks and Wildlife reminded hikers to remain calm and slowly back away if they meet a buffalo.
