Traffic police clear 20-km green corridor to deliver donor heart in record 16 minutes
A donor heart flown from Chandigarh reached Fortis Hospital in Noida in just 16 minutes after traffic police created a 20-km green corridor for the ambulance.
On September 9, a donor heart donated in Chandigarh was flown to Hindon Airport and then moved by ambulance to Fortis Hospital, Sector 62, in Noida, arriving in just 16 minutes thanks to a 20-km green corridor cleared by traffic police. DCP (Traffic) Abhay Kumar Mishra explained that traffic was regulated along the route to eliminate delays. The heart was transplanted into a 62-year-old patient, marking another successful time-critical operation.
The NCR has a history of such corridors, including a six-km route for premature twins in August 2025 and a 17-km corridor for a live donor heart in June 2025. Health experts like Dr P N Arora and Dr Akhil K Rustagi stress that these coordinated pathways are vital for organ viability and acute cardiac emergencies. They advocate for pre-planning, regular drills, GPS tracking and greater driver awareness to further improve response times.
