Tragic house fire in Riverdale kills teacher's husband and three children
A fire in Riverdale early Thursday claimed the lives of a Weber School District teacher's husband and three of her children, while the teacher and two other children were injured and a fifth child remains critical.
Around 1:46 a.m. Thursday, a house fire erupted in Riverdale at the intersection of 4600 South and 1100 West, quickly engulfing the residence. Riverdale Fire Chief Matthew Hennessy said crews rescued the teacher, her husband, and six children, but the husband and three of the children succumbed to their injuries. The teacher and two other children were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while a fifth child remains in critical condition.
The Weber School District announced counseling services at Burch Creek Elementary, Bonneville High School, Riverdale Elementary, and T.H. Bell Jr. High School to support affected students and staff. A vigil will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse where the family worships. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
