Trail runner records red-nosed koati wandering near Hárombarát-nyereg in Börzsöny

A trail runner captured video of an unusual red-nosed koati bear near the Hárombarát-nyereg trail in the Börzsöny hills, where the animal appeared unafraid.

On a Sunday afternoon in the Börzsöny region, trail runner Bárdos Dániel encountered a red-nosed koati bear near the route toward Hárombarát-nyereg and recorded the encounter on his phone. The video, later shared in the “Csak a Börzsöny!” Facebook group, shows the animal moving without apparent alarm or caution.

This is the second documented appearance of such a bear in the area, the first occurring in November 2025, which led to rumors that it had fled from the nearby Törökmezői Kis-Állatpark; the park has not officially verified the claim. After the recent sighting, speculation resurfaced about whether the same bear is still roaming the hills. The incident w.hu, which noted the animal’s lack of fear despite being alone. No injuries or threats to humans were reported during the encounter.
