Train derails near Cléon in Normandy, dozens injured as investigation continues

Around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, a regional TER train traveling between Rouen and Caen left the tracks near the municipalities of Cléon and Tourville-la-Riviere in Seine-Maritime, carrying about 180 passengers. At least 44 people were injured, including an 18‑year‑old woman who was air‑lifted to the CHU de Rouen. Emergency services deployed roughly 130–140 firefighters, multiple medical units and dozens of vehicles, and SNCF Réseau suspended traffic on the line.

Police have recovered a rail fragment and are examining a large metal object found on the tracks, while prosecutors and investigators have not ruled out any cause, with some outlets noting the possibility of sabotage and others reporting no evidence of a malicious act. The incident has caused significant service disruptions on the Rouen‑Caen corridor.
