Trans champion Veronica Ivy adds amateur golf titles to her cycling legacy

Veronica Ivy, who previously competed under the name Rachel McKinnon and broke ground by winning world cycling masters championships in 2018 and 2019, has shifted her competitive focus to amateur golf. In June she captured both the women’s British Columbia Mid-Amateur and Mid-Master titles, then helped defend the Inter-Provincial Team victory at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship with Nonie Marler and Aram Choi.

Ivy posted on Instagram that golf presents a continuous five-hour stress challenge, far exceeding the brief peak stress of cycling. She also mentioned that her driving distance, now targeting over 280 yards, is her strongest asset. The achievement arrives amid renewed debate over trans participation in women’s sports, following recent comments by WNBA player Sophie Cunningham and reactions from figures such as Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve, Enes Freedom and Royce White.
