Transgender woman fatally stabs Chicago man after bathroom taunt, prosecutors say
Prosecutors allege Kelly Day, a transgender woman, murdered Larry Young in Chicago after he mocked her gender while she was using a women’s restroom.
Assistant State Attorney Sara Grgurovic told a judge that Kelly Day, 32, became enraged after Larry Young, 50, allegedly made gender-related comments as she left a McDonald’s restroom on Chicago’s Far South Side. Although Young initially pushed Day and left the scene, she followed him across the street and resumed the assault, stabbing him repeatedly in the head, neck and shoulders. Video evidence shows Day brandishing a knife while Young lay on the ground, and the weapon later broke, leaving a fragment lodged in his skull.
After the attack, Day dialed 911, first claiming she was injured by a “pervert,” then later saying she cut herself while cooking, and was taken to a city hospital where she was arrested. An autopsy confirmed multiple sharp-force injuries as the cause of death, and prosecutors have charged Day with first-degree murder, keeping her detained pending trial.
