Transport Minister calls on ride-hailing apps to enforce vehicle safety standards
Transport Minister Purwagandhi urged ride-hailing platforms to monitor vehicle safety, referencing Presidential Regulation 27 of 2026.
On Saturday, Transport Minister Purwagandhi emphasized that digital ride-hailing companies must enforce safety measures such as helmets, vehicle maintenance and roadworthiness checks. He tied the directive to Presidential Regulation Number 27 of 2026, which creates a protective framework for the digital platform-based transportation ecosystem and defines the rights and duties of drivers and app operators. Under the rule, drivers are required to maintain their vehicles and use mandated safety gear, while platforms are expected to monitor vehicle conditions and issue maintenance alerts based on usage intensity.
Purwagandhi also highlighted the ministry's role in regulating fares, promoting fairness, transparency and compliance in service fees, and working with the Communication and Digital Affairs Ministry on pricing for passenger and goods transport. The regulation aims to solidify cooperation between drivers and platforms and provide clear protection mechanisms for all parties involved.
Why it matters
Ensuring safety in app-based transport protects passengers, drivers and sets standards for a rapidly growing digital mobility sector.
