Transportation Secretary Duffy hints at sweeping fraud crackdown with DHS and DOJ

On Sunday, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy used X to signal that a sweeping fraud-crackdown announcement is planned for Monday, tagging Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Justice and the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud. The post offered no details on the timing, venue, type of fraud or any arrests. This hint follows the Trump administration's broader push against fraud, highlighted by the March-created White House task force and the DOJ's National Fraud Enforcement Division.

In recent months, DOT has partnered with DHS on joint actions targeting alleged fraud in the commercial trucking industry, including improperly issued commercial driver’s licenses, bogus driving schools and unvetted foreign drivers. A joint July investigation examined about 75 commercial driving schools suspected of falsifying records and certifying drivers improperly. The forthcoming announcement is expected to build on these multi-agency efforts.
