Transylvania Motorway poised for record opening of nearly 100 km in 2026
The A3 Transylvania Motorway could see almost 100 km inaugurated in 2026 if the Chiribiș-Biharia section opens in December, according to officials.
Construction on the Chiribiș-Biharia lot, managed by Precon Transilvania in partnership with Citadina 98, has reached approximately 78% physical progress and is on track for a December inauguration, five months ahead of the May 2027 contract deadline. Over 500 workers and around 400 pieces of equipment are currently deployed on the site, with most of the paving work already underway. If the planned openings of this and other sections—such as Nădășelu-Mihăiești, Mihăiești-Zimbor, and Suplacu de Barcău-Chiribiș—materialize, the A3 could achieve close to 100 km of new motorway in a single year.
Earlier this year, the 12.24-km Zimbor-Poarta Sălajului segment opened, raising the operational length of the Transylvania Motorway to roughly 144 km. Officials highlighted that the accelerated pace reflects favorable weather and a concerted effort to complete the long-delayed project, which began over two decades ago.
