Travel leaders urge UK to trim six-week school summer break

Julia Lo Bue-Said, chief executive of Advantage Travel Partnership, has renewed a call to cut the traditional six-week school summer holiday and shift two weeks to October and February half-terms.

The travel consortium, together with the UK Outbound Travel Group, argues that concentrating family trips into a six-week window drives up prices and strains airports, airlines and resorts. They also note that increasingly hot July-August weather makes mid-summer travel uncomfortable. The proposal would move two weeks of the break to the October and February half-terms, easing demand peaks.
