Treasury Undersecretary Erin Browne Criticizes Canada Over Stalled Trade Talks at G20

At the G20 finance ministers’ summit in Asheville, North Carolina, Treasury Undersecretary for International Affairs Erin Browne told reporters that Canada’s refusal to finalize a trade deal represents a “fatal flaw” and will ultimately be a costly error. She emphasized the United States’ historic role in shaping the world economy and outlined the administration’s priorities for domestic and global growth. Browne cited the city’s recovery from Hurricane Helene and the $5 billion in FEMA funding as evidence of successful public-private collaboration.

She also reiterated Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s agenda of durable prosperity, stressing the importance of cutting off Iran’s access to financial networks. The undersecretary echoed Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s view that the era of secular stagnation has ended and called for a fairer international trading system. Finally, she highlighted pro-manufacturing provisions in the Working Families Tax Cuts as drivers of “phenomenal” manufacturing growth in the United States.
