Treasury urges shoppers to spend new Trump dollar coins at liberal cafés

Treasury Secretary Brandon Beach posted a TikTok challenge urging Americans to buy rolls of the newly issued Trump dollar coins and spend them at cafés he labels liberal.

Treasury Department official Brandon Beach posted a TikTok challenge encouraging the public to obtain rolls of the new Trump dollar coin from banks next month and spend them at cafés he characterises as liberal. The coins, featuring Donald Trump’s portrait, "LIBERTY," and the dates "1776 ~ 2026," were first sold by the U.S. Mint in September as part of the United States’ 250th-anniversary commemorations, with a roll of 25 priced at $61 and a bag of 100 at $154.50.

While the Mint markets them to collectors, it also states they are legal tender and could enter everyday transactions. Beach’s video suggests a second distribution channel through commercial banks, though the Treasury has not identified which banks will carry the coins or if they will be offered at face value. The challenge invites users to buy coffee with the coins, implying a political statement. The initiative highlights the intersection of commemorative currency, political symbolism, and consumer behavior.
