Trial begins for three suspects in deadly bank ATM bomb blast in Thessaloniki

In Thessaloniki, the Triangular Criminal Court of Criminal Cases is hearing the case of a fatal bomb explosion outside a bank branch at the Agios Dimitrios-Platonos junction. The attack, which killed a 38-year-old woman, is attributed to a plot orchestrated by a 42-year-old inmate who designed the operation from prison and directed the woman to build the device. A 37-year-old man moved the bomb components from Athens to Thessaloniki for a fee of 500 euros, and a 43-year-old individual is implicated after his fingerprint was found on the bag used to transport the explosives.

Police officers arrived within minutes, reported smoke and debris, and called for medical assistance, but the victim later succumbed to her injuries. The woman’s cousin testified that the victim had needed money for a medical procedure and was known to use substances. The court adjourned the hearing, with the next session set for the following day and the prosecutor’s proposal to be presented thereafter.
