Triple murder conviction for Darryl Young after fatal shooting at Queensland cattle station

In a trial held in Townsville, Darryl Valroy Young was sentenced to three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder for the August 2022 shooting at the entrance of his Shannonvale Station near Bogie, Queensland. The victims - Mervyn Schwarz, Maree Schwarz and her son Graham Tighe - were killed with a.30-30 calibre rifle, while another family member, Ross Tighe, was wounded but survived. Witnesses described Young's anger over alleged cattle theft, including a loudspeaker accusation that the neighbours were stealing his calves.
The incident unfolded after Young invited the family to meet at his gate, where he opened fire. Young, aged 63, had earlier been convicted in 2003 for stealing cattle and selling them. A sentencing hearing is scheduled in Townsville.
