Tripura Court Sentences Man to Life for Rape and Pregnancy of Teen

In Khowai district, a 30-year-old man received life imprisonment and a ₹25,000 fine, with non-payment leading to six months of rigorous imprisonment, for raping and impregnating a 17-year-old girl. Police said the girl, then a Class 11 student, visited his home to tutor his children and was assaulted while the children played, and again at her own home when she was alone. She experienced abdominal pain in September but delayed medical consultation due to exams; a December examination confirmed pregnancy.

The case was lodged under IPC sections 376(1) and 506 and the POCSO Act, with a chargesheet filed on January 20, 2022, leading to the conviction. This judgment adds to a series of recent sexual-offence convictions in Tripura, including a June case in Unakoti and a September case involving a 15-year-old girl.
