Tropical Storm Polo develops off Mexico's southwest coast, rain expected in three states
A new tropical storm named Polo formed off southwestern Mexico, with winds near 40 mph and a forecast of rapid strengthening.
Polo emerged late Sunday in the Pacific Ocean near Mexico's southwest shoreline, recording sustained winds of about 40 mph. The U.S. National Hurricane Center predicts the system will intensify quickly and could reach major hurricane status by midweek. The storm is moving east-northeast at roughly 5 mph, with a projected turn east on Tuesday and a sharp shift northward on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall is expected in Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco through Thursday.
