Truck plows into volunteers at Anseong flea market, killing mother and son

Around mid-morning on Saturday, a small truck entered a park in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, and ran over volunteer workers setting up a flea market. The impact killed a woman in her 40s and her son, who was attending middle school, and left five people wounded, including a woman in her 20s with broken legs. The driver, a man in his 60s, initially said he confused the gas pedal with the brake, then changed his story to claim the vehicle accelerated on its own.

Authorities are questioning the driver and eyewitnesses while examining park surveillance footage to determine the cause. The investigation will also assess whether the Anseong city government and the civil-public committee for sustainable development had implemented sufficient safety measures for the event.
