Truckers' unions denounce diesel-fuel aid as neglecting freight operators

The NiT Hungary Magánvállalkozók Nemzeti Fuvarozó Ipartestülete issued a video statement denouncing the diesel-fuel support plan unveiled by the prime minister, calling it unacceptable because it excludes freight operators. Together with the Magyar Független Fuvarozók Egyesülete, the unions highlighted that roughly 11,600 transport firms generate about 4 % of Hungary’s GDP and consume more than half of the nation’s diesel.

While owners of diesel cars are set to receive a monthly allowance, the unions said road carriers must continue paying full prices despite keeping the country supplied. They appealed directly to the prime minister and the economic minister for urgent measures to offset the runaway diesel prices and warned that the government is neglecting the sector’s small-business owners. The statements concluded with a call for immediate action, noting that previous letters to the economic minister had gone unanswered.
