Trump administration appoints Katie Zacharia as press secretary amid controversial statements
Katie Zacharia, a former Trump Media adviser known for claiming the abortion pill originated in Nazi Germany, has been named the White House press secretary.
The Trump administration has installed Katie Zacharia as the White House press secretary. Zacharia, 42, came from a senior communications role at Trump Media & Technology Group and is a frequent commentator on several outlets. She has publicly asserted that the abortion pill mifepristone was produced by the same company that manufactured Zyklon B, a claim contradicted by the pill’s French origins and the complex corporate history involving Sanofi.
Her background also includes a short period as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, a fundraising position at Compassion for Migrant Children, and work for the nonprofit Fix California founded by Ric Grenell. Zacharia previously attacked Senator Richard Blumenthal on social media and praised ICE operations. She replaces Karoline Leavitt, who departed for an on-air a contributor at one outlet, and will face the challenges of a scandal-laden administration.
Why it matters
The appointment places a polarizing figure with extremist claims at the center of White House communications.
