Trump administration petitions Supreme Court to uphold transgender service ban

The Trump administration filed a petition with the United States Supreme Court seeking reversal of an appellate ruling that blocked its transgender military ban. Solicitor General D. John Sauer emphasized that determining who may serve is a matter of exceptional importance for the armed forces and that constitutional questions will likely recur without judicial guidance. The petition asks the Court to deem the ban constitutional and to permit the Pentagon to enforce it, including the expulsion of transgender service members already enlisted.

The move comes after the Court previously allowed the ban while related legal challenges were pending. President Trump had earlier issued an executive order stating that a false gender identity cannot meet military standards. The administration’s request marks a second direct appeal to the high court on this issue.
