Trump adviser says Sudan's two top generals have no political future

Speaking at Dubai’s Arab Media Summit, Massad Boulos, senior adviser to President Donald Trump on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs, asserted that the United States supports a rapid civilian transition in Sudan that excludes army chief Gen. Abdel Fattah Al Burhan and Rapid Support Forces commander Gen. Mohamed Dagalo. He said Trump has been explicit about removing the two generals from any political role and that addressing Sudan’s humanitarian crisis remains a U.S. priority.

Boulos acknowledged that the U.S.-led road map with regional partners has not yet produced tangible outcomes after a year, urging its full implementation. Both generals are under U.S. and international sanctions for alleged war crimes. Recent investigations revealed the Sudanese Armed Forces’ use of chemical weapons and a UN fact-finding report called for expanding the arms embargo nationwide, with the Security Council granting a month for further discussion.
