Trump and GOP eye voter-focused issues in new midterm poll

A national online poll conducted by the Tyson Group at the end of July surveyed 817 likely voters about issues they consider important for upcoming elections. An overwhelming share indicated that expanding domestic energy infrastructure to reduce gas and electricity costs was a key concern, while nearly as many prioritized making flu shots widely accessible and affordable. Voters also expressed strong support for confronting China over artificial-intelligence standards and for establishing a uniform national labeling regime to limit grocery price spikes.

In addition, a sizable portion favored preserving access to knee and hip replacement surgeries for seniors, a demographic that often influences election outcomes. The survey coincides with President Trump’s recent executive order altering childhood vaccine recommendations and suggests that focusing on these everyday concerns could improve Republican standing in the midterms. The poll’s margin of error is about 3.4 percentage points.
