Trump and Rubio weigh removal of US ambassador to Greece amid misconduct allegations

President Trump and Senator Rubio are said to be contemplating the dismissal of Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle over alleged improprieties in Athens.

A high-ranking U.S. official said President Trump and Senator Marco Rubio are considering terminating Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle, who has served in Greece since November 2025. The officials are described as "extremely angry" over reports of alleged misconduct, including a purported threat to a Greek government representative and accusations of accepting prohibited gifts. Detailed claims say Guilfoyle asked a campaign donor to cover a credit-card bill and sought access to senior administration officials in return.

She also reportedly demanded inclusion in a World Economic Forum event in Davos and boasted about luxury trips to France with energy executives. The State Department’s Inspector General is said to be examining the allegations, while the U.S. embassy in Athens has voiced backing for the ambassador. Both Rubio and the foreign minister have declined to comment on the matter.
