Trump backs India-Middle East-Europe trade corridor as analysts warn of expansion needs

The United States leader’s endorsement has revived attention on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), first presented at the 2023 G20 summit as a rival to China’s Belt and Road. The plan, backed by India, the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Israel and the European Union, aims to integrate shipping routes, rail lines, pipelines and data cables. Although some existing infrastructure can be used, critical rail sections, ports and other links remain under construction. Analysts caution that without broader expansion, the corridor may struggle amid ongoing regional conflicts.
