Trump claims his team holds damaging data on Clinton, Obama and Biden

Donald Trump said his administration possesses compromising information on Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and hinted it could be used if Democrats pursue another impeachment.

During a Thursday night interview, Donald Trump claimed that his administration retains a large cache of incriminating material on Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, labeling the latter “sleepy.” He said he had previously avoided criminal proceedings against Clinton and could have acted against former President Bill Clinton and Obama, and that he still could do so against Biden. Trump suggested the data could be disclosed to severely damage their reputations, though he said it was unlikely he would use it unless Democrats initiate another constitutional impeachment.

He did not reveal what the information entails or what offenses could be pursued. Trump warned that if Democrats secure a House majority in the November 3 midterms, they would have another chance to impeach him, a scenario some Democratic leaders said is not a top priority. He recalled that the House impeached him twice in his first term, but the Senate acquitted him both times, and he argued those proceedings ultimately benefited him politically.

Why it matters

The allegation could fuel partisan tensions and affect voter sentiment ahead of the midterm elections.
