Trump claims Ilhan Omar used false name, urges her resignation amid fraud probe

Donald Trump told an Iowa rally that Ilhan Omar should quit Congress if she indeed swore in under a fake name revealed in court filings.

Donald Trump told a crowd in Iowa that Rep. Ilhan Omar faces removal from Congress if she indeed swore in under a fabricated name, referencing recent court filings in a federal immigration fraud investigation. The documents name her as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” matching the surname of her former husband, who some claim may be her brother. Trump urged rally-goers to notify the Speaker that the Democratic Party has effectively surrendered her seat.

Omar’s office has not responded, and she has flatly denied any wrongdoing or a blood relationship to her ex-spouse. The president also labeled her a “scammer” and suggested she could face jail time if convicted. In the same speech, Trump announced $150 million of Defense Production Act funds to boost domestic diesel and gasoline output, a move supported by Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

Why it matters

The claim could intensify partisan conflict and affect Omar's congressional standing amid a federal fraud investigation.
