Trump claims Iran conflict will end swiftly and lower U.S. gas prices

At a Kentucky rally, Donald Trump said the war with Iran will conclude quickly, after which U.S. fuel costs will drop, and defended recent strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

During a campaign event in Kentucky, Donald Trump told his audience that the ongoing conflict with Iran would be resolved rapidly, after which American gasoline prices would fall below their pre-war levels. He framed the earlier U.S. missile strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities as a justified pre-emptive action that crippled Iran’s nuclear development. In Beirut, Iran’s deputy foreign minister Saeed Khatibzadeh emphasized that ending hostilities on all fronts is essential for lasting peace, accusing Washington and Israel of violating a June Islamabad memorandum by striking Iran and Lebanon.

Khatibzadeh met with Lebanese leaders, including Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and called for Israel to halt its war in Lebanon and the Levant. He also asserted that the United States failed to neutralize Iran’s air defenses and that the war against Iran is illegal under international law. Tehran offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days and pledged to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency on its nuclear program.

Why it matters

The statements tie U.S. domestic fuel prices to Middle-East conflict outcomes and reflect ongoing diplomatic tensions over Iran’s nuclear activities.
