Trump dismisses Iran deal as worthless, urges Iranians to rise up amid US strikes

Donald Trump said he doesn’t care if Iran signs a deal he calls worthless, urging the Iranian people to rise up as U.S. forces hit IRGC targets and Treasury ramps up economic pressure.

Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he “couldn’t care less” about any Iranian pact he labeled “worthless,” asserting that the United States enjoys “almost total control” of the Strait of Hormuz and calling on Iranians to “rise up and fight.” His remarks arrived hours after U.S. Central Command reported a new wave of strikes against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities across Iran, targeting air-defense, radar, maritime assets, mine-laying and communications sites in response to Tehran’s threats to commercial shipping.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, speaking on one outlet, described the newly-started “Operation Economic Outcast,” a coordinated effort by Treasury, State and Defense teams to isolate Iran’s economy and warned it signals “the end of the regime.” Earlier on the same day, Trump told a correspondent at one outlet that Iran had squandered repeated chances for an agreement. The dual-pressure campaign reflects the administration’s strategy of combining military action with aggressive financial sanctions to force Tehran back to negotiations.

Why it matters

U.S. military and economic actions against Iran raise risks to global shipping and regional stability.
