Trump honored with Champion of Honor award amid self-medal remarks

Donald Trump was honored with a Champion of Honor award by the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation during a gathering in Arlington, Texas, where officials highlighted his backing of initiatives such as the Herschel "Woody" Williams National Medal of Honor Monument Location Act, which seeks a permanent monument on the National Mall. The foundation said the award thanked Trump for helping keep Medal of Honor recipients’ histories alive for future generations.

After the presentation, Trump joked that he would award himself the Medal of Honor, noting that 15 of the 16 living recipients were present and claiming he could make the count 16. He clarified that he was both kidding and not kidding, repeating a sentiment he voiced earlier about testing the law. Veterans of Foreign Wars denounced the comment as “asinine.” Federal law restricts the Medal of Honor to service members who performed extraordinary combat valor, a requirement Trump does not satisfy.
