Trump labels Spain a “ruined country” over Ceuta migrant influx
Donald Trump said Spain is becoming a ruined nation because of the migrant surge at the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
During a televised interview on one outlet, Donald Trump asserted that Spain is on a path to becoming a ruined nation because of the mass crossing of migrants into the enclave of Ceuta from Morocco. He called the scene “sad to see” and criticized Spain’s conduct regarding NATO, suggesting the country does not pay its due contributions. Trump compared the episode to the United Kingdom’s challenges, noting that Britain does not experience a comparable wave of people entering its borders.
He also referenced prior remarks in which he blamed the Spanish government, led by Pedro Sánchez, for weak immigration laws and mishandling the situation. The president highlighted a recent ruling by Spain’s Supreme Court that bars returning migrants who arrive by swimming, which he said has been used to fuel the crisis. Overall, Trump’s comments framed the Ceuta episode as evidence of broader policy failures in Spain.
