Trump plans September trip to Ireland for Irish Open at Doonbeg course
President Trump will travel to Ireland on Sept. 12-13 to attend the Irish Open at his Doonbeg golf resort and meet embassy officials.
According to a White House source, President Trump is set to arrive in Ireland on Sept. 12 and stay through Sept. 13, coinciding with the closing stages of the Irish Open. He will attend a reception with US embassy personnel and local business representatives, though the itinerary remains flexible for further events. The highlight of the trip will be his time at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg, a 400-acre coastal course originally designed by Greg Norman.
Trump has praised the venue as one of the most beautiful in the world and plans to watch top players, including Rory McIlroy, compete. The president previously visited the Doonbeg property in June 2019 while in office and has made private trips with his sons since then.
Why it matters
The visit underscores the president's use of personal business assets for diplomatic and promotional purposes.
