Trump's trade and foreign policies create triple challenge for GOP in swing states

During a segment on one outlet News Central, Chuck Todd argued that President Donald Trump is creating a hostile political environment for Republicans in red and swing states. He highlighted three overlapping pressures: a trade war with Canada that hurts states where Canada is the number-one or two trading partner, a contentious beef-import agreement with Argentina that angers key agricultural regions, and the ongoing war with Iran that is driving up fuel prices for rural drivers.

Todd noted that states like Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota are especially vulnerable because they depend on both Canadian trade and the beef sector. In response, several GOP candidates—including a Trump-endorsed Senate nominee in Wisconsin and two Senate hopefuls in New Hampshire—have publicly criticized the president’s recent moves. Todd warned that Republican leaders may need to carve out distance from Trump to retain swing-state voters.
