Trump says Russia will ship hundreds of thousands of tons of diesel to the U.S.
Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he reached an agreement with Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply the United States and global markets with diesel fuel in multiple shipments.
Donald Trump used his Truth Social account to state that a recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin produced a diesel supply agreement. The plan calls for an initial shipment of more than 300,000 tons, a second batch of 500,000 tons in November, and a further million tons shortly after. Trump also said Russia could soon provide three million tons, contingent on the state of its diesel refineries.
He noted that many provisions of the related law can be overridden by the president. The deal follows a pattern of fluctuating U.S. policy toward Russia, with major oil sanctions imposed last October and selective waivers granted this year to mitigate the impact of the Iran war on energy costs and inflation.
