Trump urges Saudi Arabia to accept Israeli assistance against Houthi rebels

President Donald Trump said Saudi Arabia should take up Israel's offer of help in its fight against Yemen's Houthis.

During a press briefing at the White House, Donald Trump affirmed that Saudi Arabia ought to accept Israeli support against the Houthi insurgency in Yemen. He noted that Israel has already been "very helpful" to Riyadh. Earlier reports indicated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had extended the offer through U.S. mediation to strengthen ties with the kingdom. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly resisted the proposal, fearing domestic backlash.

Why it matters

The remarks signal potential shifts in Middle-East alliances and could affect the Saudi-Israeli relationship amid the Yemen conflict.
