Trump urges Senate to approve permanent daylight-saving bill, mocks clock changes

Donald Trump criticized senators for not voting on a measure to make daylight-saving time year-round, joking that the clock shift makes him late.

At a rally in Corinth, Mississippi, Donald Trump lambasted the Senate for failing to act on the Sunshine Protection Act, which would keep daylight-saving time permanent. He described the biannual clock adjustment as “stupid” and said numerous Americans share his frustration. Trump highlighted that the House has already approved the bill on several occasions and called on senators to hold a vote.

He humorously mentioned being an hour late to a meeting due to the time change. The president warned that one outlet schedule will revert on the morning of Nov. 1, leaving many dissatisfied. He also referenced criticism from Senator Tom Cotton, who opposes the reform, and noted concerns raised by Senator Steve Daines about regional impacts.

Why it matters

The president’s pressure adds political weight to a pending time-change bill that could affect daily schedules nationwide.
