Tunisia retrieves final missing migrants' bodies after deadly boat sinking

Tunisia's officials reported on Thursday that they have retrieved the bodies of the last migrants unaccounted for after a boat capsized near the coast, raising the confirmed death count to 14. The ill-fated craft was largely filled with young travelers, among them seven individuals from the same family and a married couple where the wife was pregnant. Earlier in the week, the Coast Guard located 11 deceased migrants and rescued a single person alive.

The National Guard announced the end of search and rescue efforts and has handed the recovered remains over to the victims' families. Migration outflows from Tunisia have been decreasing following a crackdown that receives European assistance, including financial aid and modern monitoring equipment. The incident underscores the perilous nature of the central Mediterranean route, one of the deadliest pathways for migrants seeking entry to Europe.
