Turkey and the United States deepen joint strategy for Middle East stability and economic links

Under President Erdoğan and President Trump, Turkey and the United States have built a coordinated framework to address crises from Syria to the Black Sea, linking security, reconstruction and trade.

Since Trump returned to the White House, Turkey and the United States have aligned their regional policies, creating a common diplomatic platform for issues ranging from Syria and Gaza to Iran and the Ukraine conflict. The May 20, 2025 joint statement pledged coordinated action for a stable, sovereign Syria free of terrorist groups, while recent talks in January 2026 focused on cease-fire implementation and a Gaza peace plan.

In Iraq, the two nations are strengthening security, dismantling PKK-linked militias and supporting the Kirkuk oil field project with BP and ConocoPhillips, linking energy growth to the Development Road trade route. Parallel initiatives include the TRIPP corridor in the South Caucasus, Black Sea mine-countermeasure operations, and the Ankara Declaration facilitating maritime security in the Red Sea and Horn of Africa. U.S. technical assistance for Turkish small modular reactors further broadens the cooperation into energy technology. Together, these efforts aim to keep diplomatic channels open, protect trade routes and lay groundwork for post-war reconstruction across a volatile region.
