Turkey boosts defence budget dramatically, focusing on domestic arms production

Turkey announced a major increase in its defence budget, with most of the rise earmarked for home-grown weapons manufacturing.

Vice-President Cevdet Yilmaz unveiled a defence spending plan that more than triples the previous allocation. The bulk of the additional funds will support domestic arms production to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. Yilmaz said the move aims to secure Turkey’s ability to develop its own defence technologies and meet national needs. Experts note that Ankara has long pursued greater self-sufficiency in the defence sector.
