Turkey launches coordinated actions to fix problems in its fund market
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz announced that administrative and judicial steps are being taken to resolve issues in a segment of Turkey's fund market.
On October 20, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated that a coordinated set of administrative and judicial measures is underway to address problems in a specific part of Turkey's fund market. He highlighted that the Fund Coordination Board is fast-tracking ordinary liquidations and that extraordinary liquidation provisions are now on Parliament's agenda. The goal, according to Yılmaz, is to recover excessive gains and return them to the system and investors.
He emphasized that the majority of funds—more than 90%—operate within regulations and should not be conflated with the troubled entities. Yılmaz also reiterated that investing in funds and other capital-market instruments remains a supported policy, while illegal activities such as fraud and manipulation will be prosecuted.
Why it matters
