Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Formalize Mutual Defence Pact with Joint Exercises Plan

One week after Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey concluded a joint defence treaty, the Turkish defence ministry released further details, noting that the pact envisions regular joint military exercises and deeper collaboration between the three nations' defence industries. The treaty stipulates that an armed assault on any signatory will be considered an attack on all, echoing the collective defence clause of NATO's Article 5.

Ankara described the arrangement as a move toward more institutionalised and sustainable security ties, with new strategic mechanisms linking defence ministers, foreign ministers and chiefs of staff. The agreement was preceded by Pakistan's prime minister and army chief performing the Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia and Turkey's president meeting Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. While the pact does not aim to replace existing alliances, Turkey has hinted at possible expansion to include Egypt. Analysts note that such pacts can deter large-scale wars but often serve more as political signalling than guaranteed military support.
