Turkey pushes Belgium for tougher action on PKK, FETÖ and extraditions
Turkish ministers in Brussels signed a 2027-2028 police cooperation plan and urged Belgium to act against the PKK and FETÖ and to speed up extradition requests.
In Brussels, Turkey's interior minister Mustafa Çiftçi, foreign minister Hakan Fidan and justice minister Akın Gürlek concluded a police cooperation plan for 2027-2028 with Belgian counterparts, marking the first such talks since 2016. The Turkish delegation pressed Belgium to dismantle entities they say support the PKK and the FETÖ movement, and to honor pending extradition requests. Belgium's foreign ministry highlighted the pact's aim to accelerate intelligence exchange, joint training and expertise sharing against organized crime and transnational networks.
Officials also discussed coordinated action on drug smuggling, human trafficking, migrant flows and money laundering, proposing closer links between justice ministries and Interpol units. Belgian foreign minister Maxime Prévot underscored Turkey's strategic role in European security and the need for continued dialogue despite existing differences.
