Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan and Indonesia to seal multilateral defence cooperation pact in Doha
Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan and Indonesia will sign a defence-industry memorandum in Doha on Oct. 21 to broaden joint production, technology sharing and cooperation.
In Doha on Oct. 21, Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan and Indonesia are set to sign a defence-industry memorandum of understanding that expands joint manufacturing, technology transfers and collaborative programmes. The agreement builds on Turkey’s existing supply of Bayraktar TB2 armed drones, armored vehicles and fast attack craft to Qatar, as well as the BARQ joint venture that assembles SARP remote-controlled weapon systems locally.
With Pakistan, the pact covers the four-ship PN MİLGEM Babur-class corvette project, which involved shipbuilding work in both Istanbul and Karachi and upgraded the Karachi Shipyard’s capabilities. In Indonesia, Turkish firm FNSS and PT Pindad have already partnered on the Kaplan MT medium tank, with prototypes delivered by FNSS and local production continuing under a technology-transfer scheme. Defence Minister Yaşar Güler is slated to attend, and the MoU will provide a structure for further joint initiatives among the four countries. Turkish defence and aerospace exports have reached about $54 billion since 2012, with over $30 billion recorded from 2023 onward.
Why it matters
The pact deepens defence ties among four key regional players, boosting local production and technology sharing.
