Turkey's defence minister says military growth boosts global security role
Defense Minister Yaşar Güler said Turkey is strengthening its armed forces and defence industry to become a more active player in international security.
At a series of meetings in Istanbul’s Maltepe district, Defense Minister Yaşar Güler asserted that Turkey is emerging as a more influential actor in the global security architecture. He linked this rise to recent investments in the domestic defence sector, which have yielded warships, drones, missiles and air-defence systems, reducing reliance on foreign suppliers. Güler pointed to Turkey’s diplomatic engagement through the United Nations and NATO, citing involvement in regional issues from Iraq and Syria to Libya, the Caucasus and Black Sea security.
He emphasized the Turkish Armed Forces as a core source of national strength and deterrence, both at home and abroad. The minister also stressed Turkey’s commitment to international law and humanitarian norms, especially regarding Palestine.
