Turkey's foreign minister condemns Israel and highlights wider Muslim-world crises at OIC meeting

At the OIC Annual Coordination Meeting of Foreign Ministers held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Turkey’s foreign minister Hakan Fidan condemned Israel’s ongoing policies in Gaza, describing them as genocidal, and denounced its occupation and annexation activities throughout Palestinian lands. He further accused Israel of launching attacks on Syria and Lebanon and highlighted a series of crises affecting the Muslim world, including developments in Iran, Yemen, Libya, Sudan and Somalia.

Fidan called on the organization to protect the rights of Muslim minorities and stressed the importance of a unified OIC stance. The meeting took place in New York during the UNGA week, providing an extra forum for ministers beyond the formal council session. Turkey currently holds the rotating presidency of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, a role it assumed after the 51st council meeting in Istanbul in June 2025.
