Turkey's foreign minister leads high-level Libya peace talks in New York

At a side event of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan participated in the “International Support for Peace, Unity and Prosperity in Libya” meeting, which gathered senior officials from a dozen countries. The gathering focused on the UN-led political roadmap for Libya, as well as the nation’s security and economic reconstruction. Fidan highlighted Turkey’s ongoing assistance, citing his recent visit to Tripoli and Benghazi and the “One Libya” approach, and called on partners to keep channels open with every Libyan party.

He also emphasized Ankara’s capacity-building programmes aimed at strengthening Libya’s institutions. In parallel, Fidan met EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas at the Turkish House, and later spoke with EU Commissioner Magnus Brunner, Bosnia-Herzegovina Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic and Brunei’s Prince Abdul Mateen.
