Turkey's new medium-term plan aims to add over two million jobs by 2029
Turkey's Medium-Term Program targets an increase of roughly 2.13 million jobs by 2029, alongside higher growth and income goals.
Under Turkey's new Medium-Term Program, employment is expected to climb from an estimated 32.58 million in 2026 to 34.71 million by 2029, creating roughly 2.13 million additional jobs. The strategy pairs this with GDP growth targets of 4.2 % for 2027, 4.6 % for 2028 and 5 % for 2029, and a rise in per-capita income from $20,523 to $24,842. To raise women's participation, the government will broaden affordable childcare, services for seniors and people with disabilities, and after-school cultural, artistic and sports activities.
Young people not in education or work will receive expanded vocational training via the Labor Force Adaptation Program, with regular assessments of employment support schemes. The plan also addresses the green and digital transitions by mapping affected occupations, identifying new skill needs, and establishing a National Just Transition Strategy with social-protection measures for displaced workers.
Why it matters
The plan seeks to reduce unemployment and raise living standards while preparing the workforce for economic and technological shifts.
