Turkey to Deploy Osman Gazi Floating Platform to Black Sea Gas Field in October

Speaking at Filyos Port in Zonguldak on Sept. 17, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar confirmed that the Osman Gazi floating production platform will be deployed to the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea in late October, with its first gas slated to be flared before the year ends, marking the completion of the field’s second development phase. The platform is expected to add 10 million cubic metres of gas per day, sufficient for roughly 4 million households, and combined with current production will meet the needs of about 8 million homes.

Bayraktar placed the daily gas value at around $10 million at current prices and projected the facility will contribute $3.5 billion a year to the national economy. Preparations at Filyos involve roughly 7,000 personnel, 642 km of electrical cabling and nearly 30 km of piping, with installation rates of about six kilometres of cable per day. The platform was moved through the Bosphorus to Filyos on May 29, 2025, and is now in its final preparation stage.
