Turkey to hire 38,000 non-doctor health workers by end of 2026

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced a plan to recruit 38,000 health staff other than doctors, with a hiring notice expected before 2026 ends.

At a ceremony marking the inauguration of hospital buildings on Istanbul University’s Çapa and Esenyurt campuses, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan unveiled a government initiative to add 38,000 health workers who are not physicians. He indicated that the Health Ministry will issue a recruitment schedule and a formal notice before the end of 2026. Erdoğan also described the new internal medicine hospital at Çapa, which spans 44,000 square meters, houses 186 beds—including 39 intensive-care beds—and has begun outpatient operations.

He reflected on two decades of public-sector investment that has expanded Istanbul’s medical infrastructure and improved treatment access. The president recalled past periods when patients could not afford care and were detained over unpaid bills. Finally, he emphasized Turkey’s ambition to become a global health-care destination, noting an increase in foreign patients visiting the country.

Why it matters

The hiring drive aims to boost Turkey's healthcare capacity and support its goal of attracting medical tourism.
